Lotus bud

The lotus has been a symbol of purity since before the time of the Buddha, and it blooms profusely in Buddhist art and literature. Its roots are in muddy water, but the lotus flower rises above the mud to bloom, clean and fragrant.

Had this background in my stash for years and finally found the right place for it.

 

This one I didn't quilt inside the bud except the bottom petals for a different look. Used sew batik's nuance line of gradient batiks in pink. Gives you all the values needed in one fabric.

 

This goes together pretty quick, using both freezer paper and fusible web.

 

We are in peak fall foliage here in Vermont and this is my backyard tree. Beautiful but I hate to see them all fall off leaving bare branches. Oh, well - such is the change of the seasons marking time.

Go outside today for a walk and enjoy the fall for winter will be here before you know it!

Lotus bud

I made one awhile ago that was alabaster with a greenish background and wanted to try a pink one.

Here's a close up

 

 

I'm making fabric baskets and this small one is the perfect size for a remote!

The inside flaps help keep the remote upright - who knew?

And I have a few others of these addicting baskets in various stages of construction

 

This one has sheep on the outside and grass on the inside - just needs buttons.

Alabaster lotus bud

 

What happens when you throw your used tea bags into a bin with scrunched up white cotton fabric?

 

To it looks like Alabaster - that white marble looking stuff.

So I decided to make it into an alabaster lotus bud - a symbol of purity and the journey to enlightenment.

 

If I try this again I will soak the fabric first in soda ash. When I rinsed the fabric, a lot of the colt came out. I had some tea bags that left a nice pinkish reddish stain but it all came out. I'm

not a dyer but I think the soda ash makes dyes adhere to the fabric better. You should try this - just throw the fabric in a box or bin and every time you have a cuppa just throw the bag in - what have you got to lose?

I would love to see what you end up with :-)

 

Oh! And I want to wish my parents who are in their 80's and thankfully still going strong -

A happy 60th wedding anniversary!
