WIP Boxing Day

I hope everyone had a happy Christmas and can continue that Christmas joy into the new year and beyond.

Mine was quiet just how I like it with a long walk with a friend and a prime rib dinner after.

(I was in bed sleeping by 8:00) woot! Woot! - the perfect day:-)

 

So today - Still working my Nepal quilt

This past week I worked on the hillside. It went from this

And here is where I am now. I added single crochet yarn to the green grass areas and started sewing them down to the top of the green areas, then realized it looked better on the bottom :-/

Not sure if it's worth ripping out to have them all the same or not sure I even can. It's sewn on by machine very securely with backtracking etc. so probablly will leave it. What do you think? Should I channel my inner anal perfectionist tendencies that barely exist or just let the yarns lie where they may?

A quiet Moment between friends (this is a pic of one already made and sold)

It's going on the design wall for a few days to ponder over while I work on a quiet moment between friends that a friend requested. Perfect timing since I need to walk away from Nepal and go to the mountains with the dogs.

 

Have gotten this far and will play more today.

Can I come out to play?

 

A sad yellow lab only able to stick his nose out of a hole in the fence - let him out to play!

This bit of quilted fabric art was made in March and I'm entering it to the pets on quilts linky party under the dog themed quilts.

There are 10 photos here so if your browser is slow, sorry but I wanted to show the process.

 

 

I started out with the nose, traced the basic lines and quilted with black thread.

 

Then with colored pencils started to color.

 

And shade and blend

 

The nose was carefully cut out and put with wood fence looking fabrics, trouble with the top of the nose though, it just stops .......... Hmmmmmmmm.

 

Tried adding more fence to cover - nah!

 

Make the hole bigger? Now his nose looks wrong :-/

 

So I added a chunk of nose, colored it and quilted it - yes!

 

Quilted happy dog words on the wood

 

Here's the back - lots of quilting

Woof! Woof! - happy tail dance!

A Quiet Moment Between Friends

I never tire of this pattern - of course it's probablly because it makes me think of my collie Abbey and crazy pup Summer sitting together in perfect harmony even if it is only in my dreams :-)

 

The person I made it for wanted a green border. I love this dark green tree batik.

 

I always quilt around every motif to make sure all is secure.

 

And the McTavishing on the moon is something new I tried and will be in my moons from now on:-)

A quiet moment between friends - new one

I've almost got this one done for a lady who requested a green border. Notice the "moontavishing" on the moon. Love it :-) I have the pattern for sale on craftsy if you want to make one of these for yourself. See the craftsy pattern link to the right.

Ok, enough shameless self promotion:-)

 

Here's some helpful information. On my never ending quest to find an inexpensive thread that will hold up and play nicely I am trying this one from joannes. It's toldI lock poly, supposedly made by gutterman. I know, I know, you all hate gutterman and joannes thread but this is actually playing nice tension wise as you can see above. That is the back of a mug rug that I practiced on. I haven't gone pedal to the metal yet but went up to 50% speed on the sweet 16 and no breakage or problems. Yes it is linty and I will have to clean out the bobbin area but I can deal with that. I can literally walk to Joannes from my house so if I need a certain color - boom! I'm there. And it's cheap, I think I paid 3 bucks with a coupon for 2500 yds. I think I will ask handi quilter if linty thread will gunk up the works inside somehow. I'll let you know what I find out. I do like the aurifill and Isacord better of course but I have to get both online and between the shipping cost and high cost to begin with, I really am hoping for an alternative.

Have you any less expensive threads for quilting suggestions?

I have tried the metro sigma which is ok, no lint but really slippery and shiney and the shipping is 11 bucks.

 

My next project - do you know what this is? I am going to try something different.
