WIP

I've been working on this one off and on for months. One of those that sit on the design wall that need something and you hope it comes to you. I added the building and those big yarn chunks at the bottom hoping to look like bushes or trees. It still lacks something though. I guess it needs a good focal point which I had hoped the house would do but it's kind boring.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to WOW! This baby up a bit?

My Vermont landscape from last week is in the binding stage - love those clover clips!

And I'm working on making a pattern for a simple easy fusible rock cairns that can be done in any colorway as long as you stick to the values suggested. As you can see my template doesn't exactly match the placement guide for some reason so now I have to redo the templates. For me this would be good enough as I would just cut out a extra chunk and fill it in but if I put out a pattern I want it to line up with perfection. So back to the drawing board with this one :-/

It's supposed to be 60 degrees here today! Time to break out the shorts and put away the coats?

Well maybe for one day - snow in the forecast for Saturday :-S

  2. I've been reading everything I can about landscape quilts and composition, and have a suggestion for fixing your piece.....I know it is ready for binding, but could you add another green strip at the bottom and put a nice bright chimney or some windows or other details on the house to make it more the focal point? Maybe extend the shrubbery back of the house along the river bank. That raises the house to one of the "sweet spots".....then the eye follows the other buildings diagonally up to the mountains and that wonderful sky. And I would take off the yarn. Don't want to be critical, but I read Elizabeth Barton's latest post on critiquing and this is what I would want to hear. I really think it is lovely overall!

  3. Thank you for the suggestions - just what I needed! So right in all aspects. Maybe there is hope for this after all :-)

  4. I agree with the comments above from Ellen, especially about the yarn. I love your sky, did you paint It? And your distant mountains are great, the quilting is perfect for them. I've never tried a landscape, even after taking a Craftsy class on the subject.

  5. Wow, I love this landscape just as it is! Amazing job!
If you reallt want to add something I found myself thinking (probably because of the impending Spring) of an orchard of blossoming trees. Maybe a little of the center to the left, behind the little house? Just a thought.
    Thanks for visiting my blog!
